How’s Your Inner Circle?

In John Maxwell’s book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, he writes a chapter on the law of the inner circle. As I see it, the main point of the chapter is this: if you surround yourself with good people — with the winners — they will propel you to a higher level than you could ever get to on your own.

What a common sense principle, but it is so true. What if we all endeavored to surround ourselves with people who pursue excellence? What type of ideas would be generated? What could be accomplished? How would our attitudes about family, friends, community and workplace be different?

In this issue, we present to you our corporate profiles. The companies in this special section have communicated their expertise and experience in their own words. They represent a wide array of disciplines. They are leaders in their fields. By fostering relationships and open communication with some of these packaging suppliers, I believe that your company’s packaging can be propelled to a new level — one that couldn’t be attained otherwise.

I’ve heard people in the industry discuss the decline of partnerships and, more specifically, the absence of loyalty in business today. Our society is so price-driven that we may be missing opportunities for true innovation. I encourage you to examine your inner circle. Who are you currently doing business with and why? Is this the best group of innovators you can assemble? Let’s as an industry be intentional about working with winners. If you believe the law of the inner circle is true, then this practice will push our industry forward.
